Pretty Quilts Out on the Line
If you drive through Rockville on a Sunday afternoon
You’ll see pretty quilts out on the line
Lone Stars, Broken Stars, Trips Around The World
Flapping in the wind and the sunshine
Vilo is the lady who puts them all together
She knows how to needle and thread
She’ll take a scrap from her apron and a scrap from your dress
And make a patchwork quilt for your bed
Out of the weeds, a family of thieves
Driving two black Broncos
Hand up a stack of folded greenbacks
For three quilts from Vilo
Then they jumped in their Broncos and they sped away
Laughed so hard they could cry
Saying what a good haul we’ve made today
But those pretty quilts blinded their eyes
For they thought
She’s just an old lady in an old hick town
And she don’t know a thing about petty crime
We’ll just shortstack some greenbacks and hand ’em to her perfect
And she won’t even count ’em ’til we’re ’cross the county line
They drove out to LaVerkin, up to the junction
Where the sheriff flashed them down
Said you gotta be crazy to steal from the lady
Who makes quilts in Rockville town
And he broke the news to the family of thieves
Don’t you mess with Vilo
She sees right through the webs you weave
She can needle and sew
Vilo is the lady in Rockville town
Who knows how to read a design
She takes a scrap from her apron and a scrap from her dress
And hangs her pretty quilts out on the line
Lone Stars, Broken Stars, Trips Around The World
Flapping in the wind and the sunshine
King size, twin size, a double and a queen
Pretty quilts out on the line
Now if you drive through Rockville on a Sunday afternoon
You’ll see pretty quilts out on the line
